DIRECTOR - BRIAN KING

X-COMMUNICADO is his feature directorial debut, which he also co-produced and wrote. He’s also the writer-producer-director behind the shorts SUNDOWNERS, RACER X, and HYDE & SEEK, and has picked up a few awards and festival finalist spots along the way - enough to keep him completely modest...most of the time... or at least entertained, if nothing else. When he’s not developing his next feature, he’s watching movies, reading horror and crime fiction, playing sports, watching people run for their lives, and listening to politicians and media pundits argue.

DIRECTOR STATeMENT

“In crafting X-COMMUNICADO, I wanted to return to the 1970s and early '80s era of analog dystopian action, when heroes were defined by what they did, not what they said. In our case, we have an action heroine of few words; Jael’s silence isn’t just a character trait, it’s a vault. As she navigates the barren plains with sinister forces nipping at her heels, the "soul" she protects becomes less cargo and more catalyst. It’s the mirror that forces a warrior who has survived by outrunning her past to finally downshift and face it, proving that her greatest conflict isn't outmaneuvering the literal demons on her trail, but finally confronting the inner demons she’s been fleeing for a lifetime.

Visually, this film is a rebellion against the refined, symmetrical, and mathematical cleanliness of modern action cinema. We traded digital perfection for the predominantly tactile, lived-in grit of the practical era. By prioritizing in-camera stunts and a textured, analog aesthetic, we’ve created a world that feels dangerously believable and physically exhausting. In X-COMMUNICADO, the dust is real, the violence has weight, and the stakes aren’t global - they’re human.”
